Sessional Dates and Deadlines

Please note the following:

  • Ontario’s response to public health emergencies may continue to evolve. While the OISE Bulletin provides detailed information about our programs, courses, descriptions, policies, fees and financial support, changes may occur with regards to sessional dates and other procedures in response to health and safety emergencies. In these circumstances, please be advised that the manner of delivery of courses, co-curricular opportunities, programs and services is subject to change, in accordance with university policies. Please refer to the OISE’S Together Hub website for notices about any public health emergencies updates.
  • The Academic Year is comprised of three sessions - Fall, Winter, Summer - with the Summer Session subdivided into two terms - May/June and July/August.
  • In the following schedule of Sessional Dates and Deadlines, “full-year” courses refer to courses which run through both the Fall and Winter Sessions.
  • Each department may also have deadlines related to these general Sessional Dates and Deadlines.
  • Some OISE Sessional Dates differ from the School of Graduate Studies Sessional Dates - please refer to the SGS Calendar for details.
  • Please read the University’s policy on Scheduling of Classes and Examinations and Other Accommodations for Religious Observances.

2023 Summer Session

(This includes all year-two MT and MACSE and any other students graduating in June.) Instructors must upload grades by April 10 so that the approvals and manual loading of early grades into ACORN can take place.

M April 25Last day to be enrolled from a wait list into a Summer Session course that begins in May. Wait lists are cancelled at the end of today. Students who were on a cancelled waitlist should ensure that they select another course.
W April 27Deadline date for adding Summer Session courses (May–June & May–August) without instructor's approval. After this date, instructor's approval on a "Course Add" form is required.
M May 1Lectures begin for 2023 Summer, first session-May courses. For the Master of Teaching program, summer courses begin on May 8.
 
The Summer Session at OISE typically consists of two 6-week terms: May-to-June and July-to-August courses. Instructors are expected to compensate for any classes than may fall on a holiday.

Required for those students graduating at November (Fall) graduation:

  • Final Grades for all courses on ACORN; all SDFs must be resolved.
  • Departmental MRP completion forms for those in a MRP program.
  • Fully signed Departmental Degree Recommendation forms for Master’s students completing a thesis. (Student must send our office the email from ETD/ProQuest confirming that the final Master’s thesis has been uploaded by September 29).
  • Receipt of notification for addition of Completed Emphasis/Fields to appropriate student records.
  • Receipt of notification of Completed Collaborative Specializations from the Collaborative. (Students must notify the collaborative that they intend to graduate).
  • For Doctoral candidates, the final thesis must be successfully uploaded by September 15 in order to avoid fees for the fall term. In order to graduate at November graduation, the thesis must be successfully uploaded by September 29th.

Registration deadline date for students registering in the Fall (September to December) session. After this date, a late registration fee will be assessed. Minimum required payment due (unpaid fees from previous session[s] + 100% of current Fall tuition fee charges).

Certain portions of some student society fees may be refunded by the student society (listed on the ACORN invoice), within limited time periods at the beginning of each session (at the discretion of the student society). Procedures and timelines for requesting refunds is available at: https://studentaccount.utoronto.ca/.

F September 15Waitlists will be cancelled for September start courses.

The final day to add courses via ACORN is September 15. From September 16 to September 20, instructor signed and fully approved course add forms are required.

While applications will be accepted after this date, no guarantee can be given that the application will be considered for admission to either degree programs, or courses, or for financial support.

Master’s degree with thesis program students graduating in June must ensure that:

  • Degree recommendations from Departments are received. Fully-signed and Approved Recommendation for Master's Degree forms from the Department must be received by the Registrar's Office (be sure to plan ahead for signing time).
  • MRP/Thesis must be uploaded, and proof of thesis upload email from the ProQuest ETD Administrator must be forwarded to the Registration Team. NOTE: Many thesis uploads require formatting and corrections to be finalized, be sure to leave plenty of time for editing
F April 12Final grade deadline for all students intending on graduating in June.
