History
OISE has helped to transform education and human development in Ontario, throughout Canada and around the world. Our history dates back to 1906, when the Faculty of Education was established at the University of Toronto following a Royal Commission report arguing that the "Teaching of education is best performed where the theory and practice can be made to supplement each other." In 1965, the Ontario legislature established the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) to offer graduate programs, conduct research and engage in field development activities in education. OISE, in its current form, dates back to 1996, when the Faculty of Education and the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education merged to form the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto. In 2014, OISE repositioned itself as an all-graduate faculty of education in line with the University of Toronto's role as Ontario's leading research-intensive university.
