2024-2025 Sessional Dates and Deadlines

Please note the following:

  • The Academic Year is comprised of three sessions - Fall, Winter, Summer.  The Summer session is subdivided into two terms - May/June and July/August.
  • In the following schedule of Sessional Dates and Deadlines, “full-year” courses refer to courses which run through both the Fall and Winter sessions.
  • Each department may also have deadlines related to these general Sessional Dates and Deadlines.
  • Some OISE Sessional Dates differ from the School of Graduate Studies Sessional Dates - please refer to the SGS Calendar for details.
  • Please read the University’s policy on Scheduling of Classes and Examinations and Other Accommodations for Religious Observances.
  • The OISE Bulletin provides detailed information about our programs, course descriptions, policies, fees and financial support. The University reserves the right to alter the manner in which it delivers its courses, co-curricular opportunities, programs and services in response to health and safety emergencies and public health guidance.

2024 Summer Session

Instructors must upload grades by April 11 so that approvals and loading early grades into ACORN can take place.

The Summer session at OISE typically consists of two 6-week terms: May/June and July/August. Instructors are expected to compensate for any classes that may fall on a holiday.

From May 9 to May 13, instructor signed and fully approved Course Add forms are required.

Tu July 30Master of Teaching and MA-Child Study and Education programs final date to request a deferral of admission from the 2024 Fall session to the 2025 Fall Session. For all other programs, the deadline is September 15.

F August 30Deadline for submission of Individual Reading and Research Course approval forms for Fall session and full-year courses. Submit forms to the Registrar's Office and Student Experience, Registration Team.
Sa August 31Deadline for new students to satisfy all conditions of admission, otherwise course enrolment and registration is cancelled and offer of admission is withdrawn.
M September 2Labour Day (University closed)
F September 1Recommended date for tuition fee payment for 2024 Fall registration. This deadline ensures that payment is received by the registration deadline of September 13 and avoids cancellation of registration/course enrolment.  For international students, payment by this date ensures University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) coverage at the beginning of September.
September 3 - 6Orientation events
F September 6Deadline for SDF designation for 2024 Winter Session courses to be changed to a regular grade or a failing grade.
F September 6Coursework must be completed, and grades approved by Department Chairs for May-August and July/August courses and for 2024 Winter session course extensions (SDF designations).

Instructors must submit grades in eMarks by September 4 to ensure approval by this date.
M September 9Classes begin for 2024 Fall session 2024-25 full-year courses. 
OISE  has a 12 Week Fall session. For most OISE programs, classes end November 29, 2024. For the Master of Teaching Program, classes end October 31.

OISE does not have a Fall reading week.

W September 11Grades for all May-August and July/August courses become available for viewing by students on ACORN.

Required for those students graduating at November (Fall) graduation:

  • Final Grades for all courses on ACORN; all course extensions (SDFs) must be resolved.
  • Departmental MRP completion forms for students in a program with a MRP requirement.
  • Fully signed Departmental Degree Recommendation forms for Master’s students completing a thesis. (Students must send the email from ETD/ProQuest to the Registrar's Office and Student Experience (ROSE) confirming that the final Master’s thesis has been uploaded by September 29).
  • Receipt of confirmation for addition of completed Emphasis/Fields to appropriate student records.
  • Receipt of confirmation from the Collaborative Specialization office that all CS requirements have been completed to have the CS completion appear on the student record. (Students must notify the CS office that they are expecting to graduate).
  • For doctoral candidates, the final thesis must be successfully uploaded by September 30. To avoid fee charges for 2024 Fall term, upload final thesis by September 13th.
F September 13Final date to submit final doctoral theses to SGS to avoid fee charges for 2024-25.
F September 13Registration deadline date for students registering in the Fall (September to December) session. After this date, a late registration fee will be assessed. Minimum required payment due (unpaid fees from previous session[s] + 100% of current Fall tuition fee charges).

Students may opt out of some student society fees (listed on the ACORN invoice) within limited time periods at the beginning of each session. Procedures and timelines for opting out are available at Student Accounts.
F September 13Waitlists will be cancelled for full-year and Fall session courses.
Su September 15Final date to request a deferral of admission from the 2024 Fall Session to the 2025 Fall session. For the Master of Teaching and MA-Child Study and Education programs, the deadline was July 30.
September 15 to October15Intent to Graduate: Master's students expecting to finish all degree requirements in Fall should submit the OISE Intent to Graduate form between September 15 and October 15. Students who complete in Fall can select either March (in absentia) or June Convocation.
W September 18Final day to add courses via ACORN. From September 19 to September 23, instructor signed and fully approved Course Add forms are required.

W September 25Deadline to submit final doctoral thesis for Fall (November) Convocation. (Submit thesis before September 16 to avoid being charged Fall session fees.)

F November 29Payment deadline to avoid service charges on unpaid Winter (January to April) session tuition and non-tuition fees for students registered in the Fall and Winter sessions, except for those who have successfully registered without payment because they are receiving Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) or other government loans, a full funding package via a research stipend, a major award or scholarship, teaching assistantships, tuition waiver, and/or sponsorships. Monthly service charges will begin accruing on December 15.
F November 29Last day of 2024 Fall session classes - except for the Master of Teaching program which continues to December 6.

Su December 15Deadline for receipt of Individual Reading and Research Course approval forms for Winter session courses. Submit fully completed and authorized forms to the Registrar's Office and Student Experience, Registration Team. OISE graduate programs restrict the maximum number of IRR courses that a student can take. Refer to the IRR form for details.
F December 20Recommended tuition fee payment deadline for all tuition fees billed for the 2024 tax year (Winter 2024, Summer 2024, and Fall 2024) for students who want eligible 2024 tuition fee payments to be reported on the 2024 calendar T2202 tax certificate, available for students to view and print on ACORN on February 21, 2025.
F December 20Recommended tuition fee payment deadline for students registering or starting their program in the Winter session (i.e., those who were not registered in the previous Fall session) to ensure payment is received by the registration deadline of January 17, and to avoid cancellation of registration and course enrolment.

International students registering or starting their program in the Winter session (i.e., those who were not registered in the previous Fall session) must pay fees by this date to ensure they are covered by UHIP at the beginning of January.

  • Confirmation of completed collaborative specializations from the collaborative specialization office. Students are expected to notify their collaborative specialization administrator that they will be graduating.
  • For doctoral candidates, the final thesis must be uploaded by January 15 to avoid fee charges for the 2025 Winter session. To graduate at March convocation, the thesis must be successfully uploaded by January 22.

Instructors must upload grades to eMarks and 'Save as Draft' by this date to ensure that they are approved by the April 11 deadlines. This includes all Year 2 MT and MA-CSE students.

Master’s degree with thesis program students graduating in June must ensure that:

  • Degree recommendations from Departments are received. Fully-signed and approved Recommendation for Master's Degree forms from the Department must be received by the Registrar's Office and Student Experience (ROSE), Registration unit (Note: be sure to plan ahead for signing time).
  • MRP/Thesis is uploaded, and proof of thesis upload email from the ProQuest ETD Administrator is forwarded to the Registration unit in ROSE. (NOTE: Many thesis uploads require formatting and corrections to be finalized. Be sure to leave plenty of time for editing.)
W April 9Students with dual registration in the Winter session must be recommended for the master’s degree by this date to maintain their PhD registration. This requires that the fully-signed and approved Recommendation for Master's Degree form has been received by the Registrar's Office and Student Experience.
