Please note the following:

  • The Academic Year is comprised of three sessions - Fall, Winter, Summer.  The Summer session is subdivided into two terms - May/June and July/August.
  • In the following schedule of Sessional Dates and Deadlines, “full-year” courses refer to courses which run through both the Fall and Winter sessions.
  • Each department may also have deadlines related to these general Sessional Dates and Deadlines.
  • Some OISE Sessional Dates differ from the School of Graduate Studies Sessional Dates - please refer to the SGS Calendar for details.
  • Please read the University’s policy on Scheduling of Classes and Examinations and Other Accommodations for Religious Observances.
  • The OISE Bulletin provides detailed information about our programs, course descriptions, policies, fees and financial support. The University reserves the right to alter the manner in which it delivers its courses, co-curricular opportunities, programs and services in response to health and safety emergencies and public health guidance.

2026 Summer Session

NOTE: The Summer Session at OISE consists of two 6-week periods: May-to-June, May-to-August and July-to-August.  The term "Intersession" is historically used for the May-to-June period. Instructors compensate for any classes that may fall on a holiday.

During this one-day suspension, enrolment restrictions in certain courses may be modified to allow additional student categories to enroll in unfilled spaces. Please review the Course Schedule for details on enrolment controls, as outlined in the course comments.  During this period, you will be able to add a course to your enrolment cart; however, no other actions will be available. You will not be able to enrol, drop, modify, or join a waitlist until 12:00 a.m. (EST) the following day.

To be registered, students must pay at least the Minimum Payment to Register Amount displayed on their current session ACORN invoice or have an approved request to register without payment (fee deferral) in place before the SGS registration deadline. A student's status will change from "Invited" to "Registered" on ACORN when registration is complete.

Students who are recipients of a Graduate Funding Package and successfully register without payment (defer fees) should arrange to make payments throughout the academic year as they receive funding from their scholarship, award, or other sources. Full payment of Fall and Winter session tuition and residence fees is due by April 30 at the latest.

Other students who successfully register without payment (e.g., defer fees with an OSAP loan, another provincial loan, or US loan) must make their payment(s) by their deferral type deadline. After the deadline based on a student's deferral type, monthly service charges on unpaid fees will be billed on their ACORN invoice on the 15th of every month until paid in full. Visit the Student Accounts website and select a tuition deferral type to view payment and service charge billing deadlines.

Students registered in the Fall and Winter sessions are not normally charged Summer fees. For students starting in the Summer, fees will appear in their ACORN invoice accordingly.

F August 21For international students:  Recommended tuition fee payment deadline for international students registering or starting their program in the Fall session to ensure they are covered by the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) at the beginning of September. 
F Aug 28Recommended date for tuition fee payment for students registering or starting their program in the Fall session. Payment by this date ensures that it is received by the registration deadline of September 18, and avoids cancellation of registration and course enrolment.
Su August 31Deadline for new students to satisfy all conditions of admission, otherwise course enrolment and registration may be cancelled and offer of admission withdrawn. Please contact the Admissions Team (admissions@oise.utoronto.ca) for questions related to satisfying conditions of admissions.

Submit fully completed and authorized forms to the Registrar's Office and Student Experience, Registration Team. OISE graduate programs restrict the maximum number of IRR courses that a student can take - see the IRR form for details.

Students completing their degree in the Fall may choose to graduate in absentia in March or attend the June Convocation.

  3. Signed Departmental Degree Recommendation forms for master's students completing a thesis. (By September 28 [indicated below], students must forward the email from ETC/ProQuest to ROSE which confirms that the final master's thesis has been uploaded).
  4. Receipt of notification for addition of completed emphasis/field of study to appropriate student records.
  5. Confirmation of completed collaborative specializations from the collaborative specialization office. Students are expected to notify their collaborative specialization administrator that they will be graduating.
F September 18Registration deadline for students registering or starting their program in the Fall (September to December) session; after this date, a late registration fee will be assessed. Minimum required payment due (unpaid fees from previous session[s] + 100% of current Fall tuition fee charges).

Many OISE programs offer both full-time and part-time study options, and students may request to switch between these statuses, subject to program-specific restrictions and course load limits. If you have dropped one or more courses and now meet the criteria for part-time status, you must email the Registrar’s Office and Student Experience, Registration Team (oise.registration@utoronto.ca) by this deadline date to request a status change. 

Additionally, if your program permits sessional withdrawal and you intend to withdraw from the Fall session, you must also email us by this date.
M September 28Deadline to submit final doctoral thesis for the Fall Convocation.

  2. MRP/Thesis must be uploaded, and proof of thesis upload email from the ProQuest ETD Administrator must be forwarded to the Registration team in ROSE.

NOTE: Many thesis uploads require formatting and corrections to be finalized. Be sure to leave plenty of time for editing. Students with dual registrations in the Winter session must be recommended for the master's degree by this date to maintain their PhD registration.

Monthly service charges will begin accruing on June 15.
